Baking for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer

As you may know, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. What you may not know is that one organization dedicated to raising awareness and research funds, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, holds a very special place in our hearts here at OXO.

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was founded by two OXOnians who were inspired by their son Liam’s battle with pediatric cancer, a disease which claims the lives of more children in the US than any other disease (yet receives less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s research budget). OXOnians think of each other as family. The news of Liam’s diagnosis hit us hard, and we have been personally involved with this worthy organization from the beginning.

Liam Witt

Liam was a regular visitor to the OXO office, always bringing a bright smile and a new idea with him on his orange scooter. Sometimes Liam would go to our product teams with big thoughts about a product we should make; sometimes he’d sit in the kitchen and offer suggestions for improvements on current projects. We have one meeting room lined wall to wall with our products, and Liam would walk around it, his little hands behind his back like a businessman, carefully considering each product. Once he asked me to help him pick out some products for an “important business lunch” he was attending – at six years old, I’m not sure what kind of business he was conducting, but I happily held each water bottle and spatula as he handed them to me. Liam loved OXO products almost as much as he loved the things you could create with them; every year when we would have a Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sale, Liam would help us set up, admiring each sweet treat before letting us know which cookies would look best next to which cupcakes.

Every year, in honor of Liam and all the hard work Cookies for Kids’ Cancer does, we not only hold a bake sale of our own, but we also ask our bloggers to make treats to help us support the cause.

This year we offered bloggers the choice between baking cookies, muffins, or pies for their entries, and the results were sweeter than ever. Read on to see what they whipped up.

Cupcakes

Love and Laundry’s Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Cupcakes

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Cupcakes

You know something with chocolate in the name three times is bound to be good. Love and Laundry found a way to make a good thing even better with this twist on the classic chocolate cupcake.

Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes

You have probably heard of Boston Cream Pie, and maybe even Boston Cream donuts, but have you ever seen anything as delectable as Chew Nibble Nosh’s Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes?

Cookies

Peanut Butter Spritz Cookies

We love Ellie And Addie’s cute little flower-shaped spritz cookies (and we love the little chocolate chip stealer who helped make them).

Sugar, Spice and Family Life

Pumpkin Spice Spritz Cookies

It’s almost fall, which means it’s almost pumpkin spice season…and we love the way Sugar, Spice and Family Life is celebrating: by making pumpkin spice cookies that look like actual pumpkins!

Cinnamon Spritz Cookies

Whether you’re looking for a treat to go along with your coffee or for a midday treat, or you want to bring the cutest tray of cookies to a party, JavaCupcake Blog’s Cinnamon Spritz Cookies are perfectly autumnal.

Cinnamon Spritz Owl Cookies

We don’t want to hurt any other cookies’ feelings, but these might be the cutest cookies we’ve ever seen. We knew our owl Cookie Press Disk was cute, but we didn’t know just how cute the cookies could be until The Monday Box decorated them so deliciously.

Pies

Rustic Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

This pie by A Cup of Charming is a great flavorful treat to serve up, and is the perfect comfort food as the nights get cooler.

Love & Flour

Cherry, Blueberry, and Peach Pie

This fruity combo has us running to our ovens to try to recreate Love & Flour’s latest labor of love.

Rhubarb-Peach Pie with Rosemary Whipped Cream

If you like rhubarb but want to try something other than strawberries, the Bright-Eyed Baker has a delightfully different idea for you, from combining rhubarbs and peaches right down to the herb-infused topping.
